On April 11, 2018, School 7 held its first ribbon cutting ceremony to recognize the “Hallways of Inspiration” S.T.E.A.M. project. The ceremony opened with a welcome address from Principal Rebecca Cecala. Principal Cecala spoke about the benefits of S.T.E.A.M.  and the partnerships with William Paterson University and Apple, which helped to support and fulfill School 7’s initiatives and goals.

Seventh graders, Samantha Valenzela, Ahsan Miraj, and Famida Murshed, shared their thoughts on project and the impact of STEAM on society. This past year, the seventh grade class researched and created a magnificent collection of work on Scientists, Computer Programmers, Engineers, Artists and Mathematicians for display in the school hallways. With assistance from Teachers Gloria Hunt and Stephanie King, students sharpened their research skills, practiced effective time management, and worked as a team.  The nature of the project forged a cross-curricular collaboration between teachers.

The STEM club, under the direction of Teachers Marla Arrington and Fureeha Malik, also shared their robotics skills with the EV3 Rover to the amazement of their peers.  The club meets once a week during student lunch periods. Students practice coding and controlling devices through programming.  Club members practice using Swift Playgrounds and Lego robotics technology in addition to mechanical engineering sets, designed to ignite inspiration and problem solving.

After the event, students and guests were invited to a small reception, as honored guests from Central Office, the Board of Education, and William Paterson University, had the opportunity to explore the “Hallways of Inspiration” and discuss the research with the students.

School 7 Visits Apple Willowbrook!

Apple Willowbrook hosted a Field Trip for Paterson Public School 7 for a day of fun at the Apple store. Principal Rebecca Cecala and teachers Marla Arrington and Michael Petrick worked with Willowbrook’s Apple team to host sessions that taught the students how to make movies with iMovie, and how to get started with Coding. The students were welcomed to the Apple store with a round of applause by the employees. Everyone had a lot of fun making Star Wars movies trailers with iMovie. They also spent time learning coding with Swift Playgrounds. After the sessions the students were presented with Certificates of Completion for their Field Trip to Apple Willowbrook. The Apple team enjoyed hosting the teachers and students and look forward to them returning for future events.

School 7's Run for Fun!

On November 3, 2017, School 7 held its 6th annual “Run for Fun” which is a 1 mile race around town! The race began from our school playground and then ventured out into our neighboring streets. Teachers, parents, and even the Paterson Police joined in to run, escort, and cheer on the School 7 runners.  It was a wonderful time had by all.
